The very top-earning artist, "One Piece" creator Eiichiro Oda, earned a hefty ¥1.3 billion in book royalties in 2009. That's over US$15 million.
But what about the remaining 5,200 titles? The average royalty payment was just ¥2.8 million — about $35,000. And these are the guys (and gals) successful enough to actually have their work compiled into tankobon volumes.

When Marvel officially re-launches the Canadian super-hero comic Alpha Flight on June 8, the storyline will unintentionally play on the results of Canada's recent federal election.
In the new eight-part miniseries, a newly elected, ultraconservative government is pushed in a severely right-wing direction amid a climate of fear. This, after super-powered terrorists attack Vancouver on the fictional Canadian election day. In the series, titled Fear Itself, the paranoid, fascist government (led by the fictional Unity Party) even turns on its own mutant team, declaring Alpha Flight traitors and vowing to hunt them down.

Platinum Studios Inc (OTC:PDOS) Drops on Significant Volume Again
On Friday, PDOS lost nearly a quarter of its value, 24.24% to be precise. It closed at $0.025 with 3.1 million traded shares. The drop may seem surprising to some as PDOS has released a number of positive announcements recently. Two of them concerned the licensing of the company's "Cowboys & Aliens" graphic novel.
One comparison, of the industry-leading Wizard magazine, shows a decline in sales to comic stores from 71,310 in April of 2000 to 9,316 in April of 2010, a decline of 87%. Most of the decline took place in the second half of the decade; sales on Wizard had declined to 53,435 in April of 2006, a decline of about 25% from April of 2000.

Thinking about color can be daunting and I feel that it helps to start with gray. Study gray all fucking day is what I say. So we're going to work up some images with a gray underdrawing. Bust out yer gray Prismacolor markers or gray colored pencils.
Idris Elba is about to learn his lesson for tweeting during a slow holiday weekend. The actor known from The Wire, The Office and most recently Thor set off a rumble of rumor yesterday with just three tweets. As generally happens with these rumors, it's all speculation and maybe a little bit of wishful thinking going on, but since it's still a slow holiday weekend we may as well get in on the fun. It's highly likely that 20th Century Fox will be able to use X-Men: First Class to launch a new prequel trilogy. There's still plenty of juice left in the property and reactions to the film's theatrical trailer have been quite positive
