The connection between drugs and comic books has been much covered over the years, from the topic and inspiration of many a Fabulous Furry Freak Brother, to hallucinagenic experimentation behind some of the more mind bending Vertigo/Vertigoesque titles to the concentration enhancing variety that sped through much of the Image titles. Indeed one comic creator/exec was known for exchanging boxes "premium cover" variant comics that his publisher created for the hard stuff, as the drugs dealer in question found it a lot easier to shift the comics than the powder. Since then much of comics has been on more of a straight edge, at least relatively, as fashions and working cultures have changed.
Not everywhere of course. In Kingston, Ontario, Canada, one comic book dealer has been released from six months in pre-trial custody, but the government are keeping the half million dollars that was found in cash in his home.
Jorge M Carquez, 49, owner of Action Packed Comics, pled guilty of possessing the proceeds of crime, dealer amounts of marijuana and TC, magic mushrooms, morphine and more. Apparently he was long suspected of the DEU of involvement in the local drugs scene, but it's now considered he's served his time waiting for trial.
