Bleeding Cool gets the nod about the much teased 2025 Star Trek event from comic book publisher IDW. And you get to read it here first.

Article Summary

  • IDW Publishing unveils the 2025 "Star Trek" event, set to begin in March.
  • It capitalizes on the appeal of event titles featuring "War," akin to Marvel's successful strategy.
  • Data's malevolent counterpart, takes center stage in this highly anticipated comic series.
  • Chris Cantwell's "Star Trek: Defiant" may continue into the event featuring a diverse cast from the Trek universe.

I am not going to deny, there has been a lot of IDW Publishing gossip on Bleeding Cool of late. And that's not stopping any time soon. Especially as Bleeding Cool gets the nod about the much teased 2025 Star Trek event from the comic book publisher. It will kick off in March. And it's going to be called Lore War.

Marvel Comics have realised the power of an event with the word "War" in it. Kree-Skrull War, Thanos War,  Secret Wars, Evolutionary War, Mys-Tech Wars, Civil War, Infinity War, World War Hulk, Silent War, Messiah War, War Of Kings, Doom War, Chaos War, Revolutionary War, War Of The Realms and more. Looks like IDW has been taking notes.

Lore is, basically, an evil version of Data. Obviously far more complex than that, he was constructed by Doctor Noonien Soong and Juliana Soong, the fourth android they constructed and the first successful example of a fully functional positronic brain. However, he began displaying signs of emotional instability and malevolence, leading Lore to see himself as superior to human beings, which led the Soongs to deactivate him, though not before Lore had secretly contacted the Crystalline Entity, offering it the planet's life to ensure his own survival. The Soongs then constructed the more familiar character of Data, without destabilizing emotions. Over the Star Trek Next Generation run and beyond, Data and Lore have… not exactly gotten on. Though in the Star Trek future, they were combined with B-4 and the memory data of Noonien Soong into one being, personalities at odds against each other, with Lore eventually written over with Data. All of them played by Brent Spiner of course.

In the IDW comics, Lore has been a character in the Star Trek: Defiant comic, that has drawn from across the Star Trek franchise for its cast, written by Chris Cantwell, alongside Sisko, Worf, Spock, B'Elanna Torres, Ro Laren and Sela. Might he be continuing this all into Lore War?

IDW has the Star Trek comic book license from Paramount, and recently signed a deal taking it into 2025. Now we have an inking of what is planned.
