Scott Snyder and Tom Taylor Mimicking King Today in DCeased #1 and Justice League #23
So. Spoilers ahead for DCeased #1 and Justice League #23 by way of Mister Miracle. Tom King and Mitch Gerard's Eisner-winning series made much of the use of the 'Darkseid Is.' phrase. Originally created by Grant Morrison a couple of decades ago for his Rock Of Ages storyline in JLA, as an oppressive line in poster propaganda.
And, as Darkseid made a visit…
..even getting him to say it.
But that was about it. In Mister Miracle, it was weaponised and used for narrative beats, noting moments of inevitability and somewhere equating the New God Darkseid with the old God of 'I Am.'
And has been used for memes and parodies ever since.
But it seems to be spreading within the DC Universe. As Darkseid finally solves the Anti-Life Equation in DCeased #1 by Tom Taylor, Trevor Hairsine, Stefano Gaudiano, James Harren, Rain Beredo, Daida Temofonte and Ben Abernathy which we talked about a month ago. And has a bit of bflowback.
And getting the planet of Apocalips to do its best impersonation of Krypton.
Hilarity from planetary genocide. While over in Justice League #23 by Scott Snyder, Jorge Jimenez, Alejandro Sanchez, Tom Napolitano, Andrew Marino and Marie Javins, the very alive Darkseid is working with the Legion Of Doom to rescue the Justice League from their sixth dimensional future.
You know they're going to have to do this in the New Gods movie now, right? Now see if we can get Snyder and Taylor to do their Jimmy Cagney.
