Star Wars Through 2014, The $3.50 Price Point And The Return Of Hellboy – Dark Horse At Chicago
We ran some of Dark Horse's conversations with retailers at the Diamond Retailer Summit yesterday.
But there's more. Of course there's more.
First, they assured retailers that even with the Disney buyout of LucasArts, Star Wars will remain at Dark Horse for at least the entirety of 2014.
They will continue to make Darth Vader miniseries, Star Wars Legacy will remain an ongoing book and will alternate between artists every six issues and the mini-series based on George Lucas' original drafts, The Star Wars, will have a radically different logo to differentiate it.
They asked for reaction to moving the standard Dark Horse comic price point to $3.50, but were rather cautious. Most retailers seemed okay with that price, however.
Returnability was a theme for many presentations it seems, and it became the number one request of the show, with Image Comics' example being lauded. And that retailers would order three times the numbers of new untested books if they could return any unsold. Brian Wood's Star Wars #1 was given by retailers as an example – they ordered it at normal Star Wars levels, with returnability it could have been the month's number one book and have still sold out.
Mind MGMT was called out as a book that should have been trade paperbacked sooner, They are still waiting on the return of Umbrella Academy – the creators are busy on other projects. And October will see the release of the much anticipated Hellboy: The Midnight Circus original graphic novel by Mike Mignola and Duncan Fegredo…
