Superman #3 Stolen In Canada

front_entranceSuperman is often claimed by Canada as one of theirs, as co-creator Joe Shuster was born in Toronto. Well, it seems that one Canadian may have taken that claiming a little too far.

Happy Harbor Comics, in Edmonton noticed on Wednesday that their copy of Superman #3 was no longer in the store. Published in 1939, and while the copy in the store was not in the greatest edition, it was still worth over $2000.

The store owner Jay Bardyla told Global News about the theft.

Jay Bardyla says he went to grab the book for a customer who had shown a particular interest in it, but it wasn't there.

"We took a quick search around the store to see if it had been set aside or misplaced. It's not around anywhere so that's when we knew it had been stolen," says Bardyla.

The store had owned the comic book for two years, but didn't have it locked away.

"It would take me effort. I can't reach it and I'm 6'3″. For somebody else to get it they'd have to put some effort into it," he said. "We didn't want it to be that kind of thing that's just ostentatiously locked away in a cabinet with tiny lights.

"We want it to be very easy and free and feel that people can be a part of this and it's not something that's so detached or above them."

Well, someone seems to have gotten very close to it indeed. But if someone in Edmonton, Canada, offers you a Superman #3, maybe you could get in touch…?
