After Ten Years, ComiXology Pulls The Pull List In 2018

When ComiXology was launched in July 2007 as an online community for comic book fans; the website allowing readers to identify upcoming releases and develop pull lists, individual pre-orders, from local brick-and-mortar comic shops. The ComiXology Pull List

Ten years later, ComiXology is the big digital comic book distributor on campus, but the original website with pull lists linked to local comic book stores are still running. Weekly listings of new titles that can be viewed by issue: displaying cover art, credits, description, price, page count, where users can rate and comment on individual comic books and then order print copies, on a regular basis, to be picked up in store. And creating online retailer portals for stores to interact with Pull List customers.

Or at least it did. But as of next year, ComiXology is closing down all their Pull List and retailer portals from the end of March. They will not be charging retailers for any use of their services from now until then. And they continue to promise not to use the customer data associated with those retailers to market their digital comics.

They have told customers "we've decided to focus all our development efforts on our digital comics. We feel our development resources are best spent on making an amazing digital comics experience for our community" and they recommend readers "contact your retailer on how to manage your actual in-store pull list to going forward. We'll continue to update Previews information until we retire the Pull List."

ComiXology sent retailers the following letter,

Dear Comics Retailer,

We're writing to you because you use our Pull List, Popshops and/or Retailers Portal services.

We will be shutting pulllist.comixology.com and related services down on March 30th, 2018. We're emailing you almost six months before this happens so that you can prepare for the transition. We'll continue to update Previews information until we retire the sites.

We will continue with our Digital Retailer Storefronts, and will have an alternative method of sending reports to those of you that participate in those sites. This information will be coming in the weeks ahead.

We know many of you rely on these services for your business, so we wanted to give you as much notice as possible. We'll be sending out an email to all our Pull List customers tomorrow to let them know as well. After that, a pop-up window will appear on the Pull List site letting them know when the site will no longer be available.

As a gesture of good faith and our thanks for your years of continued service, we will cease charging for these services, effective immediately.

Your historical data will not be available after 3/31/2018, so make sure that you archive all your reports before that time.

Please know that we are holding to our promise of never marketing to your customers that connected to the Pull List through your store.

We've greatly enjoyed working together and truly appreciate all your support over the years.

Sincerely,

comiXology team
