The $4,999.99 Issue Of The Dark Knight III: The Master Race (Update)
Do you have $5,000.00 to spend on a comic book? A new comic book? One with an original sketch cover by Jim Lee? That is what is being offered up by Dynamite Forces. And there is so many interesting things on this page. The book is Dark Knight III: The Master Race #1 Ultra-Limited Edition 1:5000 Jim Lee Hand-drawn Sketched Retailer Variant Cover. Which is quite a mouthful to say. But let's breakdown the interesting points here.
It's a hand-drawn sketched cover… I know that clarifies that this isn't just a reproduction of a sketch, but that sounds awkward.
It's 1 of 5,000 made. That means Jim Lee sat down and drew 5,000 sketches of Batman. How long did that take? Did he mix in other characters? Did he totally blow it on one? After about 4,000 do you think he wanted to draw a stick-figure or something perverted?
Update – 1:5,000 means a retailer needed to order 5,000 copies to get 1 sketch cover. Jim did not draw 5,000 of these which makes a lot more sense. There are only a handful of these in existence. This is what happens when I write stories while on cold medicine.
The price-point is $4,999.99… because it would be crazy to spend $5,000 on this.
The add says this is a sale, half-off, and will be going back up to the MSRP of $10,000.00 on February 1st. How did they come up with that number?
There is a note saying final sketch image may vary from cover shown. For that kind of money, I'd want to see the sketch first… just saying.
All that aside, owning a piece of original Jim Lee artwork is something special. I own two pages of his work… one for Batman: Hush and the other from Superman: Forever Tomorrow. Both were expensive, neither has the hero on the page.
And if you won the Powerball the other day, this would be pocket change for you.
This is a bit of a deal though…. this one is on ebay for $7,000.00
This one is being offered for $4,999.99 as well.
And this one may be the best deal at only $1,875.00… but it has 45 bids on it already and I'm guessing it will go up in price before it's done.
