This week sees The Flash #2 from Si Spurrier, Mike Deodato and Trish Mulvihill, published by DC Comics, continuing a rather experimental use of the form, with a grid that is both order and chaos simultaneously, a fractured reality of storytelling.
It's possible I may be the only one reminded of the Soul Trapper from Spawn #8 all the way back in 1992, from Alan Moore and Todd McFarlane? It is possible. But I like to have all the angels covered.
I mean, angles, sorry.
This would be just the usual weirdness if it wasn't for Angels actually existing in the DC Comics Universe, with one even joining the Justice League as a Hawkman substitute for a good while. But there are other angles to consider amongst the grid of bifurcated storytelling reminiscent of another Grant Morrison run, that on Animal Man.
As the Flash does something rather special, after an encounter with The Stillness, that takes him out of space and time.
And that reminded me of that Animal Man run, too.
A Flash, able to step between panels of reality, the grid that has been so well structured, and doing the very things that his own Justice League-mate used to be able to do.
Maybe, just maybe…
It's a good trick if you can handle it. That's if his brain doesn't burn up first, of course…
