The Walking Dead #182 – The Smiling Calm Before The Storm
So The Commonwealth is a one-percenter model for a new world order, post-apocalypse. They have structure, they have staff, they have florists and people know their place.
In Walking Dead #182 by Robert Kirkman, Charlie Adlard, Stefano Gaudiano, Cliff Rathburn and Dave Stewart there is not a zombie in sight. This is a ballet of different groups, different people, different ideas of the way things work. And for once everyone is being nice.
There are smiles all round, even from Jon of the Saviors.
But there is talking. There is jaw-jaw, not war-war.
They've tried that.
But here's the thing. It's all niceties. The big differences are being papered over. Ignored as much as they can. In an attempt to get on, try and be progressive, try and be nice.
This can only be the calm before the storm. Whether there are zombies or not, there will be war. After all, no one really knows just what the Commonwealth is all about. The one percenters as a benign dictatorshop? Everyone doing a job decreed for them. Each according to their ability?
Something is going to break. IGN thinks the series needs an adrenaline boost, criticising this issue for being conversation-based. Consider that it's building. And Negan is still out there. He's Chekov's Negan…
