When Frank Miller And Alan Moore Argued About The Joker

Next week sees the release of Dark Knight III: The Last Crusade, a comic by Brian Azzarello, Frank Miller and John Romita Jr that fits in with the original Dark Knight continuity and acts as a prequel to the original.

It's a bit late. And has changed formats a number of times.

But as well at the $6.99 volume out next week, if you wait until November, you'll get a hardcover version with exclusive bonus material for $15.

IGN has a preview… as well as this bit of history from Frank Miller.

Alan Moore and I once had about a six-hour argument about the Joker, back when he did comic books — because he believed that the Batman and Joker were almost parallels that were separated at birth. Alan had a much more, a sort of attitude of moral relativism about what was good and what was evil. I took a much more arched view, because I believe that the Joker is not so much insane as satanic. He's evil incarnate, and he's so malicious that it goes beyond anything we could understand. That's what's so terrifying about him, is that he simply wants to do as much harm and damage as he possibly can.

As for his involvement in this volume, compared to Master Race, in which he says is written by Azzarello much more than him, Miller says "I'm much more involved. The whole thing is implicit in the first Dark Knight, and we're just expanding upon that. So it's much more involved."
