25 New Historic Cards to be Added to "Arena" – "Magic: The Gathering"
Hey there, fans of Magic: The Gathering and Magic: The Gathering: Arena! I come to you first posing a question: Have you purchased the "Year of the Rat" Secret Lair drop but have no reason to use the Pack Rat sleeves that came with it for Arena? If so, I have great news for you, and good news for anybody else with a desire to play in Arena's Historic format.
That's right! On March 12th, players of Magic: The Gathering's newer online interface will experience 25 new cards in Historic. And yes, one of them is Pack Rat.
The full list of cards is on the announcement from their DailyMTG news hub, which will be written down below for anyone who doesn't feel like clicking more links.
These cards will be made available on Arena as Wildcard purchases or as a full playset bundle for 4,000 gems or 25,000 gold. This will get you a full playset of each of these cards, keep in mind, so there would be no need to spend wildcards on them after the fact. What a deal!
The announcement on DailyMTG can be found here, or by scrolling down precisely one line.
On March 12, MTG Arena is releasing its second Anthology of new cards going straight into the Historic format, alongside the return of Historic Ranked and Traditional Historic Ranked queues. Both queues will kick off March 12 and run until April 16.
The State of the Game on March 5 will have more information, but you can read about the new cards here or just glance down about half an inch:
- Ancestral Mask

- Bojuka Bog
- Brain Maggot
- Dragonmaster Outcast

All 25 cards will be craftable via Wildcards or you can purchase a playset (four copies of each card) for either 4,000 gems or 25,000 gold.
There's more to this release that we here at Bleeding Cool will cover in further detail in an article a bit closer to the day: Thalia, Guardian of Thraben will be available as a playset in a Secret Lair drop! How exciting.
What do you think? Are you looking forward to playing Pack Rat, Waste Not, or even Thalia in Historic? Is Wizards of the Coast oversaturating Arena? Alternatively, is Wizards paying too much attention to it? Let us know your thoughts on the matter!
