Call Of Duty Celebrates Its 20th Anniversary With A Video

Did you know Call Of Duty is 20 years old? Activision has put together their own retrospective blog and video on the franchise.

Activision is celebrating the 20th Anniversary of Call Of Duty with a new video and a special blog with a retrospective look at the franchise. As part of the leadup to the release of Modern Warfare 3, the team decided to put a couple of things together as they examined all of the titles that have been released over two decades. While it's kind of fun to look at, it also kind of feels very last minute. The company usually goes all-out for celebrations, especially on stuff like anniversaries, so here's hoping there's more on the way in the near future. But for whatever reason, call it the dev crunch, blame it on the acquisition, whatever it may be… this comes off as lacking. Because if this is all they have to celebrate two decades of one of the most successful IPs in gaming history, its kind of a letdown.

"First launched in 2003, Call of Duty has a long and interesting history. Now a massive global experience synonymous with the first-person action genre today. October 29 marks a major milestone for this storied franchise as we celebrate Call of Duty's 20th anniversary, along with Activision's Studio partners and development teams. This milestone is only possible thanks to all these teams and all developers, past and present – as well as the incredible Call of Duty community. Whether you've played Call of Duty since October 29, 2003, or only joined us recently, we want to thank you for being part of Call of Duty's 20-year history, which will continue with the launch of Modern Warfare III on November 10, the first time in back-to-back years that the franchise has released a direct sequel."

"Call of Duty's history will continue with the release of Modern Warfare III on November 10. Then a few months later, in Spring 2024, prepare to join over 45 million fans who have already pre-registered Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile and prepare your squad to drop into two painstakingly-recreated Battle Royale maps – Verdansk and Rebirth Island – along with shared progression and Battle Pass integration with Modern Warfare III and Call of Duty: Warzone, and an authentic multiplayer experience including maps like Shipment and Shoot House to complement Battle Royale."
