Facebook Gaming Has Launched Their Own Gaming App On Google Play
This week, Facebook Gaming decided to launch its own mobile gaming app on Google Play, tied directly to their livestreaming services. The company made the announcement this morning, boasting that 700M+ people already play a game, watch a game, or hang out on Facebook. So why not launch an app catering to those gamers? The new app is designed to make it easier for people to find and connect on the platform to their favorite games, streamers, Groups, and more. The entire concept was built on the Facebook Gaming tab launched about a year ago. If the app itself looks a little familiar, that's because it's nearly identical to what Twitch already offers with its mobile app. It doesn't take a ton of reasoning to see this is Facebook's way of offering direct competition to Twitch utilizing many of the same systems and features they use. The two may have separate structures and branding, but its clear where they're headed with it. You can read more below along with a quote from the company about the release.
"The standalone Gaming app is a focused, gaming-only experience for people who want deeper access to Facebook Gaming content. It features a gaming feed personalized to the types of streamers you watch, games you play, and gaming Groups you're part of. It also includes new gaming-specific features like the ability to livestream games from your phone to Facebook. We've already seen more than 5 million installs of the Facebook Gaming app on Google Play since fall Last week, Facebook opened up pre-registration for people to get notified when the Facebook Gaming app launches in their region and has so far seen more than 100K people sign up."
"Our global streamer community has demanded a standalone Facebook Gaming app for awhile, so we're excited to finally launch it on Google Play," said Vivek Sharma, Vice President of Facebook Gaming. "We are building homes for the many types of gaming communities on and off Facebook. The Facebook Gaming app is a prime example of gaming's resurgence at Facebook over the last few years, and we're just getting started," said Vivek Sharma, Vice President of Facebook Gaming.
