Falcom Is Apparently Working On The Next "Ys" Title

We have yet to see Ys IX be released beyond Japan and already the word is out that the next game in the Ys franchise is being worked on. The word got out from a video featuring members of the Clouded Leopard Entertainment team. They specifically handle localization for games in Asia for many game companies. At the event was Falcom's President, Toshihiro Kondo, who speaks for a bit in the video about the Chinese localization for Ys IX: Monstrum Nox. During the video, Kondo says that they have already begun work on the next Ys game in the franchise and that it will be planned for a release around the 35th anniversary, sometime in 2022.

While it doesn't shock us that they would be planning a new game in the series, it does confuse us that development has already started when the company hasn't even released their latest title beyond Japan. Usually, for most of the games in the IP, there would already be a North American and European release announced before the word ever got out about a new game. So its interesting and confusing as to why this news is coming out now instead of say… a year from now.
