Hasbro and Wizkids Announce Enhanced Licensing Deal
File this under '80's Kids Are Going to Lose Their Minds:
WizKids, the industry leader in high quality pre-painted & unpainted miniatures and established board games, announced a new licensing partnership with Hasbro today with the addition of beloved properties G.I. Joe, My Little Pony and Transformers to WizKids' extensive line of miniatures.
Fans can expect to see their favorite characters first appear later this year in both pre-painted and unpainted formats.
"Much of the WizKids team has grown up with these cherished brands and are thrilled to be bringing them to life with the high definition sculpting processes that our customers have come to love," said Justin Ziran, president of WizKids.
My Little Pony and Transformers products will be available throughout North America.
There is precious little other information in the press release, but we're leaning heavily towards Heroclix figures and games.
If we do, in fact, see Heroclix of these beloved Hasbro properties, there will be a lot to celebrate! Heroclix as a table-top combat platform is a lot of fun, and the rule set allows a lot of cross-over potential with licensed properties. So, if there end up being My Little Pony HeroClix, Rainbow Dash could team up with Optimus Prime to take on the Avengers.
Wizkids has also branched out into board games using Heroclix figures, such as the excellent Marvel: Strike Teams sets that were released towards the end of 2018. We could be looking at more games like this from Wizkids using the characters licensed from Hasbro as well.
Regardless, 2019 look to be an exciting year for fans of classic '80s franchises, as Wizkids works to put more great pre-painted miniatures on our gaming tables! We'll have more information for you as we get it!
