London Spitfire Are Your First Overwatch League Grand Champions

It's been an interesting road for the Overwatch League in their inaugural season, but we finally have our first Grand Champions in the London Spitfire. The team claimed the championship against the Philadelphia Fusion in a 3-0 victory over two days at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The seven-player team will take home a $1,000,000 prize pot and the trophy, while the Fusion will receive $400,000 and the reassurance they'll probably be back for a second season after their performance.

The other big stories coming out of the Overwatch League was the abundance of jock mentality on social media who took umbrage to the idea that an esport was being broadcast on ESPN, with commentary ranging from simply saying it's "not a sport" all the way to full-blown racism over teammates. Many of the comments we were going to cite have been deleted from Twitter, but we're hoping the internet doesn't forget and expect a Reddit thread to show up any day now, and I'm sure we haven't heard the last of that argument anytime soon.

If you'd like to see a recap of the entire league's performance, ABC will be airing an Overwatch League special today looking back on the Grand Finals, scheduled to run at Noon PDT.
