Nintendo Is Selling Empty 'Splatoon 2' Switch Boxes In Japan

Only in Japan could you sell people little-to-nothing as a status symbol and make a profit. That's what Nintendo is doing right now as you can purchase a Splatoon 2 Nintendo Switch box (just the box, totally empty) for ¥540 (about $5).

The reason for the sale of a cardboard box is because the promotion and hype for the game in Japan are so stellar right now, fans are trying to get as much of it as they possibly can, even going to the lengths of stealing in-store promotional posters and labels from game shops. Whether or not the game lives up to the hype is yet to be determined, but if it brings you joy to waste money on an empty box with some art on the side, more power to you!
