Destiny Adds Purchasable Item That Levels You To 25

My appreciation and adoration for Destiny is well documented on the internet. My displeasure when micro-transactions also entered the game is also well covered as well though.

…and things just got a little more worrisome. As pointed out by Reddit, you can now buy level 25 characters in the game. This was a feature of the Taken King, as players were given a Spark of Light which they could use to boost one character to Level 25. There were warnings that this item might well turn up as purchasable down the road. Indeed that has come to pass and you can now buy characters at the level 25 level, but really, the most troubling thing for me is price here. They are selling the level boost for $29.99, which seems a little crazy.

It's worth noting, Level 25 doesn't actually grant you anything special. You are still locked out of late game content and more or less just creates an okay place to experience The Taken King storyline from. This really does represent the problematic road that Destiny could be on. It is good we aren't buying expensive DLC every two or three months now, but the micro-transactions are starting to give players advantages, and that is worth pausing for.
