Xbox Looking to Expand Digital Gaming with Project xCloud
This week, Xbox's Phil Spencer caught the attention of a few after he came to the Barclays Global Technology, Media and Telecommunications Conference to talk about Project xCloud. A couple of months ago the company had announced the global streaming gaming project designed so that you could play Xbox games on practically any system, even showing off a special controller and deck for mobile devices, which would use Xbox Game Pass as the primary source for the library. According to Variety, Spencer wants to reach an unprecedented amount of gamers using the tech.
"It's all about how we reach 2 billion gamers," Spencer said. "If you build the market around a couple hundred million people that are going to own a game console or a high-end gaming PC, then your business model diversity can actually narrow because your customers are narrow."
It sounds like the goal of Xbox is to have a subscription on every device they can reach across the globe, which would be a hell of a feat since even the most hardcore of gamers can't pick a single console they agree is the best. But if they succeed, it would be a venture that no company before them had ever reached.
