The Mummy comes out this weekend and it has to go up against Wonder Woman. This is a major problem with the summer movie schedule; there is no time for any movie to make back its money unless it hits big right away. If The Mummy doesn't hit this weekend it absolutely won't the weekend after because Cars 3 comes out. Now, Universal Pictures might be able to take the loss and still run with its Dark Universe plans. The Fate of the Furious and Get Out means that the studio is having a good year and perhaps if they approached the rest of the series with a small budget (The Mummy has an estimated budget of $125 million, double for marketing for $250 million) but will it still attract those big name stars for the leading roles? Only time will tell.
For now Bloody-Disgusting got its hands on a bunch of high quality images for the movie. MTV also posted a new TV spot of the cast doing a dramatic reading of the script.
Summary: An ancient princess is awakened from her crypt beneath the desert, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia, and terrors that defy human comprehension.
The Mummy reboot is directed by Alex Kurtzman and stars Tom Cruise, Sofia Boutella, Annabelle Wallis, and Russell Crowe. It will be released on June 9th.
