Alaska Airlines Goes Higher, Further, Faster with Captain Marvel Themed Airplane
In a move that perhaps wasn't thought completely through, Alaska Airlines today revealed a new Captain Marvel airplane for a flight from Sea-Tac International Airport heading to Orange County, California. The plane is emblazoned with the titular Captain's image, as well as the movie logo. A press release describes the plan thusly:
Decked out in a stunning red and navy suit, Captain Marvel is taking flight and commands the attention she deserves as a female pilot who acquired special powers to fight for the greater good. Guests boarding the Captain Marvel-themed plane will see a film logo when they board. An image of a cat named Goose from the film, will surprise guests seated over the wings.
The Captain Marvel-themed 737-800, tail number N531AS, begins flying throughout Alaska's route network today. With a cruising speed of 530 mph and sporting a larger-than-life image of the movie's namesake Captain Marvel, the plane will visit fans throughout the country via cross-country routes and flights to Hawaii.
And Alaska Airlines Managing Director or Marketing and Advertising Natalie Bowman said:
This new plane featuring Captain Marvel will delight guests of all ages. We're excited to showcase a pilot who's risen to Super Hero status––an image that embodies strength and confidence and inspires future aviators across our expansive network to go further.
But has Alaska Airlines really thought this through? Sure, Captain Marvel is a renowned pirate and a beloved superhero with a movie coming out soon, but she is also a magnet for trouble. As if the airline didn't have enough problems with people trying to bring bottles of liquid larger than 3.5 ounces onto planes or refusing to keep their seatback trays in the upright position during takeoffs and landings, now they have to worry that enemy forces such as the shapeshifting alien Skrulls will see a real "Captain Marvel" flying around in the sky and decide to launch an attack. Even worse, the plane could have a child which could later go back in time and brainwash the plane into having sex with it, a thing that really happened in a Marvel comic book.
Still, Marvel SVP of Global Partnerships Mindy Hamilton sees no danger in the collaboration.
Our collaboration with Alaska Airlines is taking our fans 'Higher, Further, Faster' with this amazing opportunity to fly with our fearless Super Hero and pilot, Captain Marvel. We are so excited that our fans will be accompanied by Carol Danvers on their next adventure.
Yeah, no thanks to that. The last thing we want to do when boarding an airplane is experience an "adventure." It sure looks like a lot of stuff gets blown up in the various Captain Marvel movie trailers. Is that really the sort of imagery you want to think about while boarding a potential airborne death trap? Personally, we'd prefer to associate a calm, even boring property with any airplane we're about to fly on. Like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., perhaps.
