Amazon To Get Into The Movie Making Business
Amazon has announced a plan to get into the movie making business. Amazon Studios is expected to produce 12 movies a year for theatrical release that would then be made available through Amazon Prime only four to eight weeks after their premiere.
The Amazon Original Movies creative development will be headed up by Ted Hope, formerly co-founded and head of Good Machine, the production company for films like Eat Drink Man Woman and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Hope recently left Fandor, a streaming-video site specializing in indie and international titles.
This announcement comes on the heels of Netflix signing a four movie deal with Adam Sandler and announcing an August 2015 day-and-date release of the sequel to Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.
