Angelina Jolie hasn't done a lot of acting in recent years. She's been much more focused on her directing career, and her private life got much more complicated over the last several years. It wouldn't have been that surprising to find out that she was planning on retiring from acting soon, but it turns out that isn't the case. While doing promotional work for her latest film, Jolie told Deadline that she is working on the sequel to Maleficent:
"We have been working on the script and this is going to be a really strong sequel," she said, excited by the prospect of returning to that Disney villainess.
Maleficent 2 hasn't had much movement since 2015. But a few days ago, we got word they hired a new writer, and that the production is officially moving forward. Maleficent the movie was an odd duck to say the least, with its undercurrent of sexual mutilation that was about as subtle as a 2×4 to the face for anyone who was paying attention. So it's going to be interesting to see how they decide to move forward with that in a sequel.
Jolie also seemed to deny the rumors that she's currently in talks to be in the next Dark Universe movie Bride of Frankenstein.
"There were rumors that she might be doing Universal's Bride Of Frankenstein but she said she is going back to Disney to do Maleficent 2."
This is what Deadline said and the "but" seems to imply that she has, for now, denied the rumors.
There is currently no release date for Maleficent 2, but stay tuned for updates!
