Black Panther is Now Tracking to Be the Biggest Marvel Superhero Solo Debut Ever

We already knew that Black Panther was going to beat Justice League at the box office. That's just common sense. Sure, maybe a Snyder cut may have made a difference, but it's too late for that. Now, however, Black Panther's opening weekend estimates are tracking even higher, potentially putting the movie above every other Marvel solo debut.

Previously, the movie was expected to make more than $90 million at the box office, which would put it behind only Iron Man, but new estimates as we get closer to the release are predicting $100 to $120 million on opening weekend, the upper limit of which would put ahead of even Spider-Man: Homecoming, and behind only seven other Marvel movies: both Avengers films, Captain America: Civil War, Iron Man 3, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Iron Man 2, and Thor: Ragnarok.

As good press and positive attitude toward the film continues to grow, it could conceivably do even better than currently projected. Thor: Ragnarok and Iron Man 2 both made less than $130 million, and should be within striking range of Black Panther if everything continues to go well for the film. The film could end up hitting the kind of numbers the Snyder Cut of Justice League would have made if Warner Bros. had released it.

A month before its opening in June last year, Wonder Woman was estimated to make $65 million in its opening weekend, but it ended up making $103 million when the dust settled. It wouldn't be surprising to see a similar performance for Black Panther.
