Gabrielle Union on the Bring It On Cast's Interest in a Sequel
With the neverending return to nostalgia properties, the time for the '90s and early '00s content (like Bring It On) feels more than interesting to Hollywood executives and studio heads. In recent years alone, we've seen the blockbuster-level returns to franchises like Star Wars, Jurassic Park, Scream, Alien, and Ghostbusters, with most maintaining their original success – or even building on pre-existing reputations with the utmost excellence.
Because of that, there's often talk about revisiting similar teen classics, such as Cruel Intentions, Legally Blonde, and Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion, keeping hope alive that this will trickle down to other genres as well. More recently, Gabrielle Union, star of the original film, responded to a question about any interest in returning to her role alongside the film's ensemble cast.
When speaking to ComicBook.com, Union offered the site, "We all have an interest in revisiting it," Union tells the publication. "During the pandemic, around the 20th anniversary of Bring it On, we all were, you know, together all the time doing these panels and talking about the movie and the making of the movie and all of our wild hijinks, but yea, then we got really serious about 'we should update this,' you know, like bring it up to where are they now."
Acknowledging her former co-star's recent award nomination, Union then added, "But now that [Kirsten Dunst] is up for an Oscar, I don't know. That twofer with her and the husband, they may want to keep that train on the tracks, so I don't know if she wants to change gears that dramatically and come back to be Torrance again, but maybe."
For now, we'll just have to settle for Syfy's upcoming Bring It On: Halloween, a spooky-themed version of the cheerleading world.
