Cronenberg's Jonathan Lethem Adaptation Acquires A Screenwriter

Cronenberg's Jonathan Lethem Adaptation Acquires A ScreenwriterBody horror king David Cronenberg is getting a lot of press lately for his forthcoming Sigmund Freud drama A Dangerous Method, which is about to pack up its tent and wellies in preparation for the festival circuit, and his recently wrapped adaptation of Cosmopolis,  but he's also attached to an adaptation of Jonathan Lethem's novel As She Climbed Across The Table. We've known for a while the Media Rights Capital had brought Cronenberg onboard, but according to Deadline the package now comes with a screenwriter: Bruce Wagner.

More recently writing episodes for Tracey Ullman's TV series State of the Union, Wagner has actually had brushes with horror before, having written the story for A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors. Now, play nice.

Maybe it wasn't the best film in the franchise but from what I can recall it was actually a good if somewhat goofy sequel.

It sounds like Wagner is working from great source material as well. First of all, the name of the novel is excellent and if they replace it with something bland and boring like Black Hole'or Space or Mayonnaise for the film then they're fools.

The story is about a love triangle between a university professor, his scientist girlfriend, and a black whole called Lack that the scientist created as part of an experiment to replicate the origins of the universe. Ouch. When you get dumped for an astrological phenomenon with an enormous gravitational pull, you know it's time to try a new aftershave.
