Daily 'Dune': Jason Momoa May Be Duncan Idaho
Okay, this is the first bit of casting news from Denis Villeneuve's upcoming adaptation of Frank Herbert's Dune for Legendary Pictures that has us asking "really?"
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jason Momoa is currently "in talks" to play Atreides man and sword master, Duncan Idaho.
We're not sure how we feel about this one for a few reasons, but the main one being age. We know Momoa can fight, and thus far has been able to take on pretty much any role he's been put in. This is not to say that obviously the casting director knows more about the script than we do, as we can only go by the base story from Herbert.
Duncan Idaho will also, theoretically if the story goes by the first Dune novel, have some interesting scenes with The Lady Jessica, as played in this version by Rebecca Ferguson.
So far, Villeneuve's Dune has a pretty impressive cast- Chalamet as Paul, Rebecca Ferguson as his mother The Lady Jessica, Oscar Isaac reportedly joining the film as Paul's father Duke Leto Atreides, Stellan Skarsgard as Baron Vladimir Harkonnen, Charlotte Rampling as the Bene Gesserit Reverend Mother Gaius Helen Mohiam, Dave Bautista as the Beast Raban Harkonnen, Javier Bardem as Fremen leader Stilgar, Josh Brolin as Gurney Halleck, and the most recent casting rumor (that we're still waiting to get confirmed) of Zendaya as Chani.
Cameras are reportedly set to start rolling sometime in March, and we'll let you know what we hear about a likely release date and any other news from Arrakis.
