Dark Knight Massacre Suspect Named As James Holmes

ABC News have named one James Holmes, 24, of North Aurora, as the man arrested at the scene of the Denver cinema massacre during the midnight screening of the The Dark Knight Rises, wearing a a bullet-proof vest and riot helmet. He was captured in the car park outside the cinema with a gas mask, rifle, and handgun. And it is his apartment block which has been evacuated and searched as a result of fears of further action.

I am investigating whether a James Holmes of Denver, a friend of a Facebook friend of mine, is the same man. UPDATE: It's not. And it looks like his apartment was rigged with explosives. As ever, Reddit is continuing to provide a comprehensive timeline.

Although it seems that the gunman simply targeted a venue that was likely to be full of people, it is also likely that questions about the Batman character, comics and franchise itself will soon start to be asked publicly. One witness report that the shooting was timed to match shooting on the screen, is a haunting one.
