Doctor Who Shocker: Chris Chibnall Will Cast Next Doctor In "Traditional" Way
Ever since Peter Capaldi announced he would leave Doctor Who, regenerating into a new Doctor after this year's tenth season during the Christmas special in December, fans and media have been running absolutely wild with casting rumors. The favorite for the role has been changing several times a week, with Tilda Swinton currently leading in gambling odds. It would seem like we fans have got this covered, and new showrunner Chris Chibnall, who will take over from the departing Steven Moffat in the eleventh season, can just sit back and let us figure out who should be the next Doctor.
That's not the case, however, according to an interview with the Telegraph, Chibnall doesn't plan to choose the next Doctor based on who Billie Piper wants, or based on who is leading in betting odds.
"We'll cast the role in the traditional way," Chibnall said in the interview. "Write the script, then go and find the best person for that part in that script. You couldn't go out and cast an abstract idea."
"The creative possibilities are endless," he continued, clearly showing no appreciation for the fact that we've all learned to type his name correctly instead of typing chin ball. "But I have a very clear sense of what we're going to do, without even knowing who's going to play the part."
Just who does Chris Chibnall think he is?! We mean, who left and made him Doctor Who showrunner?
Oh yeah, that's right.
