First Trailer for Brightburn Imagines 'What If Superman Was Evil?'
The idea of "superheroes but evil" has been kicking around for as long as the genre has existed. While there have been plenty of comics that have explored this idea there hasn't been much as far as movies or TV are concerned. It looks like that is going to change this coming Memorial Day. Sony Pictures has released the first trailer for the James Gunn produced superhero horror movie Brightburn.
That looks like a bunch of iconography that we are very familiar with and that's what is likely going to make this one interesting. Gunn cut his teeth in horror and really helped change the superhero genre with Guardians of the Galaxy. While he isn't directing this and it doesn't look like he did any writing Gunn's name is going to be the out in front despite what happened over at Disney.
Summary: What if a child from another world crash-landed on Earth, but instead of becoming a hero to mankind, he proved to be something far more sinister? With Brightburn, the visionary filmmaker of Guardians of the Galaxy and Slither presents a startling, subversive take on a radical new genre: superhero horror.
Brightburn, directed by David Yarovesky, stars Elizabeth Banks, David Denman, Jackson A. Dunn, Matt Jones, and Meredith Hagner. It will be released on May 24, 2019.
