Fox Stakes Out Six New Marvel Movie Dates; Could One Be A Kid-Oriented Fantastic Four Flick?
Fox has set dates for six upcoming Marvel movies from 2019 to 2021, in addition to the three already planned for 2018: New Mutants, Deadpool 2, and X-Men: Dark Phoenix. There's no indication of what the movies will be about, but we know their release dates: June 7 and November 22 in 2019, March 13, June 26, and October 2 in 2020, and March 5 in 2021, according to a report from polite climax-themed entertainment blog Coming Soon.
It's a sure bet that some of these will be X-Men films, potentially sequels to current franchises or offshoots of new ones. But what about the Fantastic Four? Legend has it Fox must make a Fantastic Four movie every seven years lest they lose the rights back to Marvel, but it may be longer than that before the stench of Josh Trank's 2015 bomb is properly washed away from the minds of the moviegoing public.
However, if Fox were to make a Fantastic Four movie that's different enough from the previous films to fool moviegoers into giving it a chance while still satisfying their arcane rights deal, it could be the perfect solution. Enter the rumored kid-oriented Fantastic Four movie focusing on Reed and Sue's children, Franklin and Valeria, written by Seth Grahame-Smith. Or "rumour" as Bleeding Cool Rumormonger-in-Chief Rich Johnston called it when he broke the story last week (pip pip).
Of course, Fox continuing to make movies in the Fantastic Four franchise could mean we'll have another decade or more of no Fantastic Four comic book series at Marvel, since Marvel Chairman and Trump bestie Mar-a-lago Ike Perlmutter reportedly declares the property persona non grata for another five years if he crawls out of his hole and sees the shadow of another corporation owning its movie rights against his wishes.
