Time For Extreme Weather In The Second Trailer For 'Geostorm'
Geostorm is a Skydance Warner Bros production coming out this October. The first trailer was sparse with a great sound drop, while this one is extremely different in tone. Unfortunately, there are a couple of jokes that don't really land and the special effects still look really out of date. It seems the only interesting thing about Geostorm is that it's an extremely troubled production.
The movie originally went into production in October of 2014 and was supposed to be the directorial debut of Dean Devlin, who was the other half of Independence Day. The studio was so unhappy they brought on an entirely new director in Danny Cannon, and under the supervision of Jerry Bruckheimer, did extensive reshoots in December of 2016, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The rumor is they spent up to $15 million dollars to try to get the production to work.
The production doesn't have a lot in the way of big stars, and Gerard Butler is playing a scientist rather than the action hero role. That appears to have gone to Abbie Cornish. The movie is a gamble for Skydance, who want to move onto being their own studio rather than just financing movies.
A late October release date for a movie that looks like it should be smack in the middle of the summer, with extensive reshoots happening two years after principal photography has wrapped? Well, fingers crossed on this one.
Summary: When the network of satellites designed to control the global climate start to attack Earth, it's a race against the clock to uncover the real threat before a worldwide geostorm wipes out everything and everyone.
Geostorm, directed by Dean Devlin and Danny Cannon, stars Gerard Butler, Abbie Cornish, Ed Harris, Andy Garcia, and Jim Sturgess. It blows into theaters October 20th.
