A Three And A Half Hour Cut Of Paul Feig's Ghostbusters Exists

Ghostbusters 2016 is one of the most polarizing films of the last ten years. Originally intended to relaunch the franchise starring an all-female team, right from when the first trailer dropped, there were issues. Internet bloggers and commenters had a field day ripping the film's tone and mediocre effects to shreds and saved most of the vitriol for the female cast themselves. When it actually hit theaters, it was a modest success, but the far from the blockbuster return many were hoping for with a new Ghostbusters film. Director Paul Feig had a chat back when it was released with Collider, where he revealed that the film was almost much different at release, with a runtime of 3 1/2 hours.

Ghostbusters Does Not Need To Be Longer

"The editor's first cut was 4 hours and 15 minutes, and I trimmed that down to a slim 3 and a half hours (laughs). We generate a lot of stuff and I always wanna have all the underpinnings of a big, emotional story, and because of that it just added a lot of extra scenes that as you're going through, you know you have to make a lot of choices because I knew I had to bring this down under two hours. You just start weeding and saying, 'What do people want to delve deeper into and what do we wanna just kind of skirt through and get to the fun parts?"

The floodgates are opening now with the reveal that The Snyder Cut is coming for real. Now every film that has ever had any kind of back and forth with fans is going to try and stir things up and get some new release. Feig himself was on Twitter, saying that he has the cut he could release. This Ghostbusters was fine, it could have been better, but what really wouldn't be better is a longer cut of the film. Less is more people; more of something is not always a good thing.
