The latest episode of Gotham can be broken down into three categories… the good, the bad and the Gordon. You can break most of this season down that way as well.

The Good – This is the Bruce Wayne / Selina Kyle story. I'm not the biggest Court of Owls fan when it appeared in the comics, but I think it's working well here. We are seeing these two growing up to be Batman and Catwoman before our eyes. And this is my favorite rendition of Alfred Pennyworth so far. Last night they had to work as a team to infiltrate a Court of Owls safe house to steal something that might bring them down. We see moments of humor, action and hints of the future. Please the surprise at the end of meeting Selina's mother. Now they have whatever it is the Court was hiding and Alfred killed Talon (with some help). This has to kick this story into high gear.

The Bad – The story with the bad guys in it. Barbara Kean goes to Edward Nygma and points the finger for Isabella's death squarely at Oswald Cobblepot. Even using a riddle to do it. Nygma doesn't want to believe it, but gets Penguin to admit he's in love with him. It makes everything awkward… well, the murder does that too… and Nygma decides to hook up with Kean, Tabitha Galavan and Butch Gilzean to go against the Penguin. Though Tabitha and Butch aren't happy about it. This story has been interesting so far, but it's left Oswald as kind of a bit subdued this season. I am looking forward to him being more actively involved.

The Gordon – and this is the ugly and continues to be the ugly. As well as this series is doing in slowly building up the characters into the ones we know and love from the Batman universe… they seem to be going the opposite way with Gordon. They brought him in as a good man, the put him through trail after trail and they had him make the wrong choice over and over again. To the point now that its hard to like him or even want him to succeed. In the episode he discovers that Mario is infected by the Tetch virus and has killed people. Jim has to stop him… alone… as always. The gets played by Mario and beaten up by Carmine Falcone's men. But in the end, when he can proved Mario is infected and has to go after Lee Thompkins… he demands information from Falcone, shoots two goons who were just standing there, promised to bring Mario in alive, then raced off and shot Mario in the chest twice. Mario may be… and likely is… dead. Lea watched it happen and will be traumatized. Falcone will be furious. Where if Jim simply would've taken Falcone's men with him or Bullock… or someone else to have seen the situation, it could've been avoided. But Jim makes every bad choice you can and is falling further and further away from the character we've known for years.

I know Gotham is different, but it's still supposed to be a prequel to a variation of the Batman we know from comics and films. Jim Gordon has always been the last good man in Gotham. The man who did the right thing because it was the right thing. This Gordon is hell bent on destroying himself and everyone around him because he THINKS it's the right thing.

Next week it looks like Jerome may be coming back.
