A sequel to Beetlejuice has been rumored for years and is finally coming out later this year. However, the film is still nine months away, and we only have a few details about what this film will be about. When it comes to "decades after the fact" sequels, they tend to be really good or bad, with very few ending up in the middle. There is no telling as to what we can expect from Beetlejuice 2, but the cast seems to be really excited about the film, and they are talking about it very positively. One has to imagine the script had to be decent to get Michael Keaton to return after so many years. One of the new faces we are getting is one of everyone's favorite girls in horror right now, Jenna Ortega. Ortega exploded onto the mainstream following her roles in Scream, X, and Wednesday, all in 2022, and returning for Scream VI in 2023. She's busy right now with a bunch of stuff, but bringing her onto Beetlejuice 2 seemed like a given, and when the casting was announced, fans of the original seemed happy about it. Ortega recently walked the red carpet at the Emmys, and Entertainment Tonight asked her about Beetlejuice 2. She couldn't say much but did praise everyone and the practical effects fans can expect from the film.

"I don't know if I can say anything about Beetlejuice," Ortega explained. "All I can say is it's probably some of the most fun I've ever had on a set. Visually, so exciting. Everything was practical; I think we're not using much CGI or anything like that. It was very satisfying shooting on set because you got instant [satisfaction]. It looks cool; everyone did an incredible job; I felt so lucky to be there. It was insane. I can't wait for people to see that movie."

Beetlejuice 2 Becomes A Reality [Finally]

At one point, during the Warner Bros. presentation at CinemaCon, a whole bunch of logos for movies that were coming out well after 2023 were shown. This is very common and sometimes can be a soft launch for movies that are 90% greenlit, but they are just waiting for the ink to dry on the final contract. Two of the films that showed up included a fourth entry in The Conjuring franchise and a sequel to Beetlejuice. There have been false starts for a Beetlejuice 2 for years, but it seems that this might not be one of those. On May 9, 2023, it was announced that Beetlejuice 2 had snagged a September 6th, 2024, release date. Michael Keaton is set to return to the title role, new goth queen Jenna Ortega has been cast as the daughter of Lydia Deetz, played by Winona Ryder in the 1988 original, and Justin Theroux has also joined the cast in an unknown role. On May 11, 2023, we learned that Monica Bellucci was in talks to join the cast, with Tim Burton returning to direct and Winona Ryder and Catherine O'Hara also returning. Willem Dafoe also joined the cast, and production wrapped in December 2023 following some strike delays.
