Justice League Will Have A "More Traditional" Batman

One of the more vocal criticisms of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was that Batman wasn't acting like Batman. Or he wasn't acting like Batman because he was murdering people. It didn't sit well for a lot of fans and it looks like Justice League is hoping to "fix" Batman in the DC Extended Universe going forward. In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly Ben Affleck talks about the Batman we're going to see in Justice League.

"He's put in this position of having to reach out, find other people, convincing them to do something," Affleck explains. "Part of the drama of the movie is the question of whether or not the team is going to come together. It's very different from the tenor of the last movie."

This version of Bruce isn't used to working on a team let alone trying to be the leader pulling a team together. Affleck talked about the rage that the BvS version of Bruce was feeling and why it spurred him to act the way he did.

"BvS departed a little bit from the traditional Batman," says Affleck. "He started out with all this rage directed at Superman, because of his coworkers who had died in the fight Superman had with Zod."

Affleck acknowledges that Bruce was acting irrationally in BvS but that we can expect that to change in the team-up movie this fall.

"He was holding on to a lot of anger, in a little bit of an irrational way," Affleck says. "Whereas this is a much more traditional Batman. He's heroic. He does things in his own way, but he wants to save people, help people."

He goes on to say that this is a Batman that comic book readers would recognize which, to be fair, still paints a very wide brush. The Batman of the comics has been something you could show a kid to something that should have an adult warning on the cover.

"This is more in keeping with the canon of how Batman's usually been portrayed, and how he's portrayed vis a vis the Justice League in the comics," he explains. "This is more the Batman you would find if you opened up your average Batman comic book."

Affleck clarified that he doesn't mean the movie itself is average because he could see the headlines forming in journalists heads as soon as he spoke the word "average".

"Not that it's average," Affleck clarifies. "I think it's a really cool story. Actually, it's sort of a story about multilateralism. It's not a bad theme to have!"

The various members of the Justice League do sort of represent a few different countries so it isn't that hard to think of them as a bunch of countries coming together to fight one big, bad guy.

Summary: Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman's selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy.

Justice League, directed by Zack Snyder, stars Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller, Ray Fisher. and Henry Cavill. It will be released on November 17th.
