Kraven the Hunter Snags A Mainland China Release Date, 9 New HQ Images

Kraven the Hunter has snagged a mainland China release date. Sony Pictures has also released two new behind-the-scenes images and 7 HQ images.

In a move that is only surprising if you haven't been paying attention to the box office numbers of the first and third Venom movies in China, Kraven the Hunter has snagged a mainland China release date. According to Variety, the film will be released on December 14th. The film opens in the US and in Canada on December 12th, but it will make its official debut internationally at the Saudi Arabia's Red Sea International Film Festival on December 11th, of all places.

Kraven the Hunter is the third Sony Marvel movie released this year, with Madame Web in the spring and Venom: The Last Dance last month. Madame Web was a top-to-bottom failure on nearly every level aside from the memes, but Venom: The Last Dance is a bit harder to quantify. None of the Venom films have been critically beloved, but they have a devoted fanbase in both the US and China. The first Venom film did just over $210 million at the Chinese box office. Let There Be Carnage didn't make it to China, but it was late 2021, so things were a little weird. The Last Dance has brought in just over $90 million, but the box office trends in China have generally been slowing down this year. Even so, the film is currently the third-best-performing Hollywood movie in China. Kraven the Hunter is currently being pushed as a standalone film, and Sony isn't doing much marketing despite the release date creeping closer. Domestically, this film is sitting in between some major releases and stiff competition, so there is a good chance it could use the extra boost from the international box office. We also got two new behind-the-scenes images and seven high-quality images as well.

Kraven the Hunter is the visceral, action-packed origin story of how and why one of Marvel's most iconic villains came to be. Aaron Taylor-Johnson plays Kraven, a man whose complex relationship with his ruthless father, Nikolai Kravinoff (Russell Crowe), starts him down a path of vengeance with brutal consequences, motivating him to become not only the greatest hunter in the world but also one of its most feared.

Kraven the Hunter, directed by J.C. Chandor, stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ariana DeBose, Fred Hechinger, Alessandro Nivola, Christopher Abbott, and Russell Crowe. It will be released on December 13, 2024.
