'Mindhunter' Trailer Shows The Early Days Of Serial Killer Profiling
Mindhunter, an upcoming Netflix series that dives into the early days of what would become criminal profiling, is based on the book Mind Hunter: Inside FBI's Elite Serial Crime Unit written by Mark Olshaker and John E. Douglas. The series is set in 1979 and focuses on two FBI agents, Holden Ford (Jonathan Groff) and Bill Tench (Holt McCallany), who interview imprisoned serial killers to try to solve ongoing cases.
The agents face opposition, as no one sees the benefit of understanding the criminally insane back in that era, even decades after killers like Charles Manson did their thing. The whole concept of criminal profiling grew from these studies and are now a regular method of hunting serial killers…even the term serial killer came from these studies.
David Fincher (Girl With The Dragon Tattoo) is on board to direct three episodes along with Andrew Douglas (The Amityville Horror) and Asif Kapadia (Sena) doing two each. The rest of the cast includes Anna Torv (Fringe), Tobias Lindholm (The Hunt) and Cotter Smith (The Americans). It has already been renewed for a second season.
Mindhunter premiers October 13th on Netflix.
