Netflix Grabs Ahold Of Ben Stiller Comedy About Severed Penis, The Eggplant Emoji
After a long and hard fought bidding war, streaming giant Netflix has won the rights to Ben Stiller's comedy The Eggplant Emoji, according to an excited report from THR. The show, said to be in the vein of Superbad, is about a teenager who accidentally cuts off his penis on a camping trip and he and his friends' quest to get the appendage reattached. Five other companies were trying to get their hands on the project, which all agreed is bulging with potential, but Netflix vigorously beat them off one by one until they were the only ones left standing.
Stiller and Nicky Weinstock will finish off the series through executive producing along with Blake Anderson, Adam Devine, Anders Holm, and Kyle Newacheck of Workaholics. Kevin Burrows and Matt Mider, creators of Gentlemen Lobsters, also inserted themselves into the project as screenwriters. Now that they've aroused interest in The Eggplant Emoji and secured a distributor, the path to success has been properly lubricated and the production is primed to erect a cast and crew for filming. The movie will fill a gaping hole in Netflix's schedule for R-rated, dark-comedy feature films.
Bleeding Cool will be closely following the ups and downs and ins and outs of The Eggplant Emoji, so keep one eye on the site for updates, which we'd like to release on a regular basis.
