Patty Jenkins Confirms Kristen Wiig Will Play Cheetah in Wonder Woman 2

In February, Kristen Wiig was rumored for a role as an unnamed villain in Wonder Woman 2, the sequel to the smash hit movie starring Gal Gadot as the titular Wonder Woman. While there was talk that Wiig could play the main villain of the film, just who that villain would be was unknown. However, director Patty Jenkins took to Twitter today to confirm Wiig's signing and also apparently confirm via hashtag that Wiig will be playing Cheetah, a character created by William Marston and H.G. Peter who has served as Wonder Woman's nemesis since she first appeared in Wonder Woman #6 back in 1943. Of course, which specific incarnation of Cheetah Wiig will portray is unknown.

"So excited to confirm the most thrilling news," Jenkins posted on Twitter. "Yes! It's true! So incredibly lucky to welcome the sensationally talented Kristen Wiig to our Wonder Woman family. Can't wait to finally work with one of my favorites. And SO excited by what we have planned. #Cheetah!!! @GalGadot"

Gadot had previously wished for Cheetah to appear in the sequel, and it looks like that wish has been granted. Wonder Woman 2 is set for release in November, 2019, so more information about the movie should shape up in the coming months. At present, the working theory is that the movie will take place in the 1970s or 1980s.
