Patty Jenkins Is Honored By Wonder Woman's Oscar Buzz
Wonder Woman is out as a digital download now and will be out on home release next month. That means the cast has been making the rounds to promote the home and director Patty Jenkins spoke to ET Online about people's reaction to the film.
"It's actually been interesting seeing peoples' reactions to this," says Jenkins. "Particularly women coming up and saying, 'That action scene was made for me! I don't even like action movies!'"
Jenkins went on to talk about how the movie spoke to women, in particular, in a way that made her very happy.
"There is something about this movie that felt like it was speaking to [women] more than they had seen before because of the point of view being slightly different. I think that has been remarkable," Jenkins gushes.
There were plenty of people that thought Wonder Woman was going to bomb or not do as well as other superhero movies. When it comes to the critical and financial success Jenkins is happy it worked out.
"It's wonderful, it's what you hope for," says Jenkins. "You work so hard on [films] for so long, everybody that makes them hopes for success in every way they can possibly get it. So it's felt very lucky and incredible to get both."
The movie was such a critical darling that there is early Oscar buzz for the movie and not just in the technical departments.
"It's an amazing honor," Jenkins says. "It was never what we thought. You don't make a movie like this assuming it would happen so, wow, it is an honor."
Wonder Woman II has been announced and Jenkins is negotiating a deal to return as the director. There haven't been any concrete details about the movie yet but the thing that Jenkins is looking forward to is seeing what Wonder Woman can really do.
"The greatest thing about making this movie was the fact that you're really building to the Wonder Woman that we all love, but not until the end of the movie," Jenkins reflects. "The most exciting thing about [the sequel] is literally seeing her loose in the world now, living those classic stories. Here's Wonder Woman, and what can she do? It should be a totally different movie, but a grand and now full-blown Wonder Woman in the world."
We're hoping you'll be back Ms. Jenkins and that you'll make another movie that makes me burst into tears of happiness.
