Paul Giamatti is doing the awards dance right now, as is much of Hollywood, as he is garnering all kinds of accolades for his performance in Alexander Payne's The Holdovers. Last night, he won the Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy award at the Golden Globes. But on the red carpet before the event, he was asked by Variety what genres still interest him after decades in Hollywood, and he had a fantastic answer. Horror.
Paul Giamatti Can Do As Much Horror As He Wants
"Horror. I'd Like to do more horror. I love horror." He responded with a classic when asked what his favorite horror movie was. "Oh, that's a tough question. I love The Texas Chainsaw Massacre a lot. Great movie, it's a great movie! A beautiful film." Then, he was asked if he would want to be the killer. "I don't think I could do the killer, I don't know what I would be in a Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and I don't know if I would want to THAT exactly, but I love horror." You can see the brief red carpet exchange below.
The only outright horror film that Paul Giamatti has done was M. Night Shyamalan's Lady In The Water, and then, depending on how you look at it, The Amazing Spider-Man 2. He needs to do way more horror films. How has he not had a supporting role in an A24 film or a period piece with demons of hauntings? His acting style lends itself perfectly to the genre. Hell, some of the monologues he delivered in Billions were more tension-filled than most horror films. Hey, Hollywood, he better have at least ten scripts this morning to look at, or you have all failed.
