Rumors Of An Obi Wan Kenobi Stand Alone Film

Since Disney bought the Star Wars franchise from George Lucas, speculation on what would happen has been rampant. We know that besides the main film series, they plan on doing a stand alone films as well working toward a new film a year. And we know that Gareth Edwards and Josh Trank will be directing the first two.

ObiWanRecently a poll on on the official Star Wars website, fans voted Obi Wan Kenobi the most popular character over the likes of Han Solo, Darth Vader, Boba Fett and even Yoda. Which may seem odd to us older folks who grew up with the first trilogy, but the younger generation has grown up with the Clone Wars saga where Kenobi is a central character.

Now on the website MakingStarWars.Net, they have a source saying that a Kenobi stand alone movie is in the works:

Obi-Wan Kenobi – I've heard from quite a few people now that an Obi-Wan Kenobi movie is in the works. For the spin-off movies they were initially going to stay away from any Jedi or Sith characters. But I'm hearing now that because of the popularity of Obi-Wan (fans recently voting for him on the official website etc) that an art team is now working with a writer on concepts for an Obi-Wan movie.

Throw in the fact that unlike most of the other characters, Kenobi has an actor already excepted by fans to play the part in Ewan McGregor. An McGregor has already stated he would come back to the role and gave MTV his idea for what the movie would be.

So this is still just a rumor, you can see why it's one that is starting to build steam.
