Show Runner Scott Gimple Announces Walking Dead Cancellation For 2030
Bad news for fans of AMC's The Walking Dead: the show is getting canceled. On the bright side, it won't be for another thirteen years, according to show runner Scott Gimple. Gimple was at Paleyfest, a television festival for fans who only eat foods available to Paleolithic humans, and he discussed his plans to continue making The Walking Dead until the show has gone on for twenty years, according to a report from the NY Daily News.
"We are trying to do twenty years. The comic has certainly done it, and I look forward to every issue," said Gimple of the book which started in 2003, twenty years ago, according to math. "The Simpsons has been on 26, 27 years, so that's a challenge — so OK, challenge accepted. Done."
As to how Gimple plans to make the show last that long, he plans to take another concept from the world of comics – a continuous cycle of never-ending reboots. "We try to reinvent the show every eight episodes. We have this story that is a fidelity to the comic book, but we're also exploring original stuff, and those things help us go on every year."
The penultimate episode of The Walking Dead's seventh season is set to air tonight, with the season finale ending next week. That leaves just thirteen more seasons before the announced cancellation, so enjoy it while it lasts.
