Sony Pictures Showed Off "Extensive" Footage from Venom at CineEurope

CineEurope is currently going on, which means we're getting some of the details from the various studio presentations. It's not likely any of that footage will leak or we'll hear much in the way of specific descriptions of footage, just because of the nature of the show. We do have some details, though, and a few quotes from various studios. Yesterday, Sony Pictures had their presentation, and The Hollywood Reporter got all of the details.

Sony Pictures Showed Off "Extensive" Footage from Venom at CineEurope

As far as comic book movies go, the big one Sony has coming out this year is Venom. We've only had one teaser (which people hated) and one trailer (which was much better received). According to THR they showed "extensive" footage from Venom at the presentation.

Extensive footage was shown from Venom, starring Tom Hardy as the much-adored Marvel creation. "The most chaotic and unpredictable Marvel character finally got his own film," said Sony president of international distribution Steven O'Dell, who labeled the film one of the studio's "most exciting projects in years."

Sony still has a few months to really get people on board for this movie, because audiences seems pretty divided when it comes to Venom. Sony usually does a lot of marketing, but that sometimes ends with them releasing half of the movie via TV spots and trailers. They need to find a balance — especially for a movie like Venom where there is no guarantee it'll be a hit — between getting people hyped and showing us the entire movie legally via YouTube.

There was also a preview for The Girl in the Spider's Web, a sizzle reel for the upcoming sequel to Goosebumps, and clips from Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation. Directors like Quentin Tarantino and Antoine Fuqua also recorded special messages for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and The Equalizer 2 respectively.

Summary: When Eddie Brock acquires the powers of a symbiote, he will have to release his alter-ego "Venom" to save his life.

Venom, directed by Ruben Fleischer, will star Tom Hardy, Riz Ahmed, Jenny Slate, Reid Scott, and Michelle Williams. It will be released on October 5th.
