"The Little Mermaid" Remake Casts Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric
It's been a while since we heard any casting about Disney's live-action remake of The Little Mermaid. The last we heard about this movie was back in July and we all assumed that we would get some sort of casting announcing at the, at the time, upcoming D23 Expo. However, D23 came and went and we didn't hear anything about The Little Mermaid which was a little odd. We assumed, with all of the casting rumors and announcements that came out in a rather short amount of time, that Disney was getting ready to start production. Now it's November and we are just now getting a new casting confirmation so maybe this movie isn't as close to starting production as we thought. According to The Hollywood Reporter Jonah Hauer-King has been cast to play Prince Eric.
The last we heard about the role of Prince Eric Harry Styles was in talks to join the cast but those talks ultimately fell apart. THR reports that Disney has been searching for their Prince Eric ever since and landed on Hauer-King. The movie will be directed by Rob Marshall, who directed Mary Poppins Returns for Disney last year and Into the Woods back in 2014.
Disney has cast Halle Bailey as Ariel, Melissa McCarthy as Ursula, Jacob Tremblay as Flounder, Awkwafina as Scuttle, Daveed Diggs as Sebastian, and confirms the previous rumors that Javier Bardem will play Triton. At the moment we have no release date and no production start date but now that Disney has [pretty much] a full cast we can expect some sort of announcement sooner rather than later.
