Why DC's Legends Of Tomorrow Needs To Bring Back Jonah Hex
The new season of DC's Legends of Tomorrow will focus more on magic and mysticism according to the executive producers. Word is we'll see different versions of Damien Darhk (Neal McDonough) and Leonard Snart / Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller). But there is one character that has popped up on the show twice now and I think he needs to keep up that ratio of at least one appearance every season. That is of course, Jonah Hex (Jonathon Schaech), DC's legend of the old west.
Hex first appeared in the eleventh episode of season one, in a story called The Magnificent Eight. We learn that Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill) had spent a bit of time with Hex in the past and that perhaps some of Rip's style was based on that time… like the long duster and the six-shooter looking sidearm. Hex would return again in an episode called Outlaw Country, the sixth episode of season two and we met a distant relative of Amaya Jiwa (Maisie Richardson-Sellers). In both episodes, Hex is such a no-nonsense, down-to-Earth counter to the craziness of the Legends that it's a breath of fresh air. Plus, every time the team goes to see him, they seem to learn more about themselves while they're there. And Schaech's portrayal of the disfigured bounty hunter is a good reminder that there are heroes in every time period. I'd like to see an annual visit with Jonah become the norm for the series.
I'd like to see them switch it up a bit though. I'd like to see Hex be taken out of his time and into the future. A chance to see him look at and mock the modern day society or even a futuristic one. The team is in trouble except for one member and that person goes and collects their "friends" from different time streams… or something like that. Either way, anything that brings Hex back on to the series is okay with me.
DC's Legends of Tomorrow returns for season three on October 10th at 9 PM on the CW.
