We are getting a new film from Robert Eggers this year, and it has been in the works for a while. Focus Features must think they have a winner on their hands because they are already teasing Nosferatu, even though it doesn't come out until December 2024. We love a Christmas horror movie release. This movie also sees actor Willem Dafoe working with Eggers again, and Dafoe has not been shy about singing the praises of his now pretty frequent collaborator. There's nothing wrong with working with the same people repeatedly, and Eggers always seems to draw out engaging performances from his actors and double so for the ones he works with consistently. Dafoe recently spoke to Total Film about Nosferatu and praised Eggers and cinematographer Jarin Blaschke, saying that he can't "think of another film that looks quite like it."
"I think Robert and [cinematographer] Jarin [Blaschke] were in a very good place, and he's getting more and more refined," Dafoe said. "It's a bigger scale – maybe not quite as big as The Northman, but he was very on top of it. I just saw some pieces, and I didn't get a sense of the film itself, but it was just beautifully photographed. I can't think of another film that quite looks like it."
The Northman was a film not nearly enough of you went to see, and hopefully, Nosferatu won't suffer the same fate. Maybe we'll get to see a good old monster movie in the awards season for next year if this movie ends up being good.
Nosferatu Is A Christmas Movie (Don't @ Me)
The film has been in the works for a long time, and the release calendar is already packed. From Disney, we have Mufasa: The Lion King set to be released on December 20, 2024, along with Sonic the Hedgehog 3. On the exact same day, there will also be another film from Jordan Peele. So, it's already a nice little mix of family fun and niche weirdness. We love to see it. The latest summary of Nosferatu is currently a "gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman and the terrifying vampire infatuated with her, causing untold horror in its wake."
Nosferatu is directed by Robert Eggers, and it will star Bill Skarsgård, Lily-Rose Depp, Willem Dafoe, Nicholas Hoult, Emma Corrin, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Simon McBurney, and Ralph Ineson. It will be released in theaters on December 25, 2024.
