Nerd Food: Eating Around Disneyland During February, Part 1
One of the highlights of visiting Disneyland in February is for SURE the Lunar New Year stuff in California Adventure — but that doesn't mean you shouldn't enjoy the regular snacks on the Disneyland side.
For this trip, my party of three (two plus me) decided to try and snack on as many of the notable offerings as we could within reason, and still be able to move around during the day.
Over at the Bengal BBQ in Adventureland right across the walkway (now blissfully clear of stroller parking, by the way) from both Jungle Cruise and Indiana Jones, there are some awesome eats. If you want something with the effect of both bacon and being marginally healthy, this is the snack for you. The bacon is crispy and a nice addition of salt (but not overpowering), and the asparagus maintains its snap. The only thing I personally would add to this to make it even BETTER would be a balsamic drizzle. We gave this 5 out of 5, and I could probably eat three orders myself.
We also got two orders of the Bengal Beef skewer with the sweet sauce. I'm not a fan of BBQ sauce, and I was pleasantly surprised that this was no where near the level of sauce I was expecting. Marginally sweet, and serving more as a nice cushion for the meat, these were tender and tasty. We gave these 4 out of 5.
I was curious about the spring roll there, so I nabbed one of those, and was pleasantly surprised by the result. Super tasty. Watch out for jalapenos in the wrap, though. 4 out of 5.
We also did the bacon mac and cheese at the Cozy Cone in Carsland, and if you like super creamy mac with a hit of bacon, this is the snack for you. It's served in a bread cone, and while it may be too much for one person to eat in one sitting, for our party of three it was pretty perfect. The best part was after the mac was eaten, and the cheese and bacon were coating the inside of the cone. Nom nom. 4 out of 5.
As for Disneyland sweets and snacks, we're diving into those on our second day in the park, but I have to talk about the popcorn for a minute. I never really desired popcorn in the park because I eat so much of it at home, but the fact that there is a FREAKING TIE FIGHTER POPCORN BUCKET meant I was eating a lot of kernels this trip.
It was also Villains Day on my trip, an unofficial gathering of like-minded folk who enjoy Disneybounding as their favorite House of Mouse baddie. I took the opportunity to do my Orson Krennic by way of Scarif [Miami] Vice, the most capable Imperial Officer we've ever seen in the Star Wars universe. (FIGHT ME — but really, don't.)
